Metastatic breast cancer

The symptoms of metastatic breast cancer depend on where it is found. Symptoms may include:

• Bone pain that does not go away
• Loss of power or weakness in your arms or legs
• Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite 
• A constant feeling of nausea
• Discomfort or swelling under your ribs or across your tummy
• Feeling constantly tired 
• A dry cough or breathlessness
• Severe headaches

It is very unlikely that you will have all of these symptoms or even most of them.

Some patients have no symptoms. Or you might have general symptoms at first. This can include feeling more tired than usual or losing your appetite.

There are treatments to help with symptoms. For example, radiotherapy and medications can help with bone pain and draining fluid build-up in the lungs can help with breathlessness. There are other things that can help you to cope with side-effects and symptoms.
