About the partnership

A key priority for the Irish Cancer Society is to ensure that patients in Ireland
benefit from world-class cancer research and expertise. Central to this focus is fostering and
supporting clinical trial research to ensure that people affected by cancer in Ireland have access to excellent cancer treatment, research and leaders who will drive innovative, evidence-based improvements in patient care.

Building on this goal, the Irish Cancer Society is a proud partner and funder of Cancer Trials Ireland. The Society is the largest charity funder of CTI (and was the largest funder overall in 2023), currently investing over €1 million per year. The Irish Cancer Society and CTI have a long-established relationship, with the Irish Cancer Society having provided funding to CTI since the late 1990’s, including significant investment and annual core-funding dating back to 2012. Each year in Ireland, thousands of people affected by cancer are participating in hundreds of clinical trials across the island. The CTI mission is to maximise cancer trial access and outcome to prolong patient lives and expand cancer research in Ireland. This strongly aligns with the goals of the Irish Cancer Society to ensure that Irish patients have access to world-class research and clinical trials such that be the most appropriate treatment for them. The Irish Cancer Society is committed to invest each year into CTI to support their activities and increase access to clinical trials for people affected by cancer.

This investment is working toward the goal of increasing the number of cancer trials in Ireland and the number of patients on cancer trials.
