Mesothelioma
Signs and symptoms
Symptoms of mesothelioma
- Breathing problems – usually they come on gradually
- Chest pain on one side
- Persistent coughing
- Loss of appetite
- Difficulty swallowing
- Weight loss
- Tiredness
- Hoarseness
- Sweating and fevers
All these symptoms can be caused by other common conditions other than cancer, but it’s important to go to the GP and get any unusual changes checked, especially if you’ve been exposed to asbestos in the past. Asbestos is the main cause of mesothelioma.
Symptoms of mesothelioma can take 10 to 60 years to appear after you have been exposed to asbestos. In the early stages it’s unlikely to cause symptoms.
