Pádraig Hanratty took part in the Irish Cancer Society’s Marathon in a Month challenge in both 2019 and 2021, he is now excited get involved once again this July.

“In 2005, my mother passed away shortly after being diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, a mere six months after my father had suddenly passed away. The summer of 2005 gifted us unusually glorious weather (for Ireland!), but that summer was an extremely traumatic one for our family.

“The Irish Cancer Society was an invaluable support to our family during our darkest days, and helping out with their fundraisers is a small way that I can express my infinite gratitude to them.

"Marathon in a Month gives me the perfect excuse to get out into nature and be reminded that although life can be cruel and crushing, it can be also be beautiful and invigorating.

“I'm lucky to live near one of the most scenic parts of Ireland (Carlingford Lough).

"I am proud to support Marathon in a Month again this year. Sadly, cancer is a relentless enemy and claims many new victims every year. This year, I'll be doing Marathon in a Month in memory of Caroline Conroy Schmidt.”
