Anyone know of a group for colorectal cancer survivors? I've a permanent colostomy and have great stoma support, but have never talked to or compared not with a colorectal Cancer survivor!

Dear SerenaG

Thank you for posting on our online community. I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I hope you will hear from others here who have gone through treatment for a similar cancer.

It is good to hear Serena that you have good stoma support. I hope that you are recovering well after treatment and the shock of the diagnosis. If you would like to speak to one of our Peer to Peer volunteers who have had colorectal cancer in the past, we could arrange that. As it happens currently our volunteers are men who have had colorectal cancer.

Having gone through a cancer diagnosis it can be very supportive to attend your local cancer support centre. You will find a list of the support programmes they are providing on their individual sites. Unfortunately I do not see one specifically for colorectal cancer but it can be supportive meeting others who have gone through a cancer diagnosis.

The Irish Cancer Society runs a programme for all patients who have been through a cancer diagnosis. The purpose of this is to help adjust to life after cancer providing support, advice and information about the supports and services to them locally. It is called LACES. This may interest you

The Irish Cancer Society will have its annual ‘Living Well’ conference available to all free to attend online or in person. It will be in Cork this November on Sat. 18th Nov.’23.  You will meet many others at this friendly, informative and interactive day. I would hope that you would find it helpful. You can scroll through the videos on the link to see the subjects covered on previous years.

If you would like to phone us Serena we could discuss all of this further. Some people choose to post messages on UK sites and we can discuss this and other options with you.

Our phone number is 1800 200 700. We are all cancer nurses here Mon-Fri 9-5pm and would very much like to support you.

Kind regards

Cancer Nurse
