Last reply: 01 June 2023 09:10

My doctor has recommended me to get an MRI scan and possible biopsy. How lng should this whole process take before I get any results.

Thanks

Hi Joerirsh,

Thank you for your post.

Waiting time for review, scans and biopsies can differ slightly between hospitals. Waiting times can also depend on the level of urgency placed on a referral. We would recommend that you contact the hospital that you were referred to and ask about the waiting time for you.

If you would like to chat to one of our nurses in more detail about this please contact the Support Line on 1800 200 700, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.

Kind regards,

Cancer Nurse

An MRI Scan results can be got within that day / or next day.
Usually best to be combined with a CT scan. The two together will give a very good indication of the tumour / cancer.

I had both on the one day in April in the Beacon, and that evening I got the bad news - metastatic prostrate.

It can take time to find a location to get an MRI …..some indications were it could take 4-6 weeks. Persistence and asking others in the know, you should be able to get one within 7-10 days.

Good luck
