Can your company ‘pink it’ for the Irish Cancer Society?

For the first time ever bales of silage around the country are wrapped in pink – thanks to a quirky and innovative idea from ‘Pink Partner’ Dairygold to support the Irish Cancer Society’s work in breast cancer.

The pink silage wrap has been in huge demand since they launched at the beginning of May and thanks to the support of the farmers nationwide they are completely sold out with only a few retailers still selling them. The demand for this new initiative, designed to raise money and awareness in advance of the Society’s Paint it Pink campaign in September, is unprecedented. The pink bales which have been appearing since silage season began are now popping up around the country much to the surprise and delight of those who see them. Social media is awash with pictures and the pink bales have made national news. Pink wrap sold to date will cover 35,000 bales appearing across every county in Ireland.

The Irish Cancer Society is appealing to other companies and organisations to become a Pink Partner and join the fight against breast cancer this year. Interested companies should call our corporate team on 01 231 6628, or email corporate@irishcancer.ie for more information.

Mark Mellett, Head of Fundraising for the Irish Cancer Society said “We are so thrilled with the amazing success of ‘wrap it pink’. It’s such a unique and fun campaign but most importantly it’s helping raise money and awareness of breast cancer which sadly is still killing so many women. Around 700 women die from breast cancer each year – so we still have a lot of work to do in terms of raising awareness, ensuring women go for screening and supporting all those affected by breast cancer at any and every stage. Support like this helps us a huge amount but we need more help and we appeal to others to join us and become a Pink Partner this year, or if you want to support the campaign text Pink to 50300 and donate €4 to breast cancer today.”

“Many farming families throughout Ireland have been affected by cancer and the Irish Cancer Society provides terrific support for sufferers and their families”, said John O’ Carroll, Head of Retail at Dairygold.

“We are delighted that farmers embraced this initiative so warmly and that pink silage bales are appearing in every parish this summer. It’s great knowing that in doing this we are not just raising cancer awareness but also helping to raise much needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society. ‘Wrap it pink’ is brightening up the fields and putting a smile on people’s faces. We are delighted that it’s such a huge success. We are already planning our “Wrap It Pink” campaign for 2016 and look forward to continuing our pink partnership with the Irish Cancer Society.”
