Ireland’s favourite 5k, the Colour Dash, is back

Today the Irish Cancer Society forecasts a colourful summer ahead as they announce the return of their hugely popular ‘Colour Dash’ 5k, with three great locations for 2015. The first event sees Colour Dash come to Galway for the first time ever as dashers will take to NUIG on Sunday 21st June, followed by a return to Cork where the event is moving to a city centre location on Sunday 28th June and finally the flagship event in Dublin will return to Phoenix Park on Saturday July 11th – following a sold out event the last two years.

Colour Dash is a five kilometre run that sees participants of all ages running, walking or jogging the course. At each kilometre, a different colour – representing a different cancer - of powder paint is thrown at participants, creating a kaleidoscope of colour. ‘Dashers’ start the route wearing a white t-shirt that is quickly transformed into a colourful work of art. 2015 marks the third year of Colour Dash and to date over 6,000 people have taken part and over 4 tonnes of paint has been thrown.

“Every household in Ireland is affected by cancer in some way. Cancer can be a dark and scary word to many people but Colour Dash provides a fun and cheerful way that people can fight back against cancer, together. Whether you are running because you have beaten cancer; or for your mum or someone you love; or because you want to fund research so that fewer people face cancer; or fund services so fewer people face cancer alone.” said John McCormack Chief Executive Officer, Irish Cancer Society. “Taking part in Colour Dash will make a difference. We hope to see thousands of people join our colourful army and come together to fight back against cancer.”

Crown Paints will continue to support the growing events as sponsor, Kevin Whelan, Marketing Controller, Crown Paints Ireland Limited said “We’re delighted to be involved with the Colour Dash again this year. It generated such warmth and good feeling in the last two years and raises funds for such an important cause. Best of luck to everyone planning to take part from all of us at Crown Paints.”
100% of the money raised from the Colour Dash will go towards the Irish Cancer Society’s work to help people reduce their risk of getting cancer, to support those living with cancer and supporting on-going research into better ways to diagnose and treat cancer. One in three Irish people will be diagnosed with cancer during the course of their lifetime and every person is affected in some way by this disease. This event offers a fun way for friends, families and colleagues to fight back against cancer.

The five kilometres of the Colour Dash are: 1km: Yellow - representing lung cancer, 2km: Green - representing bowel cancer, 3km: Purple – representing cancer survivorship, 4km: Blue – representing prostate cancer, 5km: Pink – representing breast cancer.
