Receiving a cancer diagnosis is an incredibly difficult experience for anyone, but for Florence Buckley from Galway the timing on what should have been a joyful occasion made it even harder to bear.

“It was on the week of my son’s first birthday that I got the news three years ago, and my daughter was just two-and-a-half at the time,” she said.

Florence went through eight weeks of intensive therapy before eventually getting the all-clear in January 2018.

“I have wanted to help out since then. I was 36 when I was diagnosed and have small kids so people should see that it hits people at any age.”

Florence has been a committed fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society following her own experience, taking part in the recent Marathon in a Month challenge and supporting this year’s Colour Dash 5k.
