Apply to become a volunteer driver

Thank you for wanting to donate your time as an Irish Cancer Society volunteer driver. Through our network of volunteers, we are able to be in every community across Ireland working to eliminate cancer and improve the quality of life of those affected by cancer.

We are now recruiting volunteer drivers in the following areas: 

  • North Dublin
  • South Dublin (D24, D22, D20, D12, D6, D10, D8 only to go to St James’s and Tallaght Hospital)
  • Carlow
  • Meath
  • Waterford
  • Cork (East Cork only - Midleton to Youghal)
  • Kerry
  • Galway (West Galway - Connemara only)
  • Roscommon
  • Cavan (to the Dublin hospitals only)
  • Monaghan (to the Dublin hospitals only)
  • Louth (to the Dublin hospitals only)
  • Westmeath (to the Dublin Hospitals only)

Irish Cancer Society volunteer drivers transport cancer patients to and from their chemotherapy treatments in our partner hospitals.

  • Commitment: 2 drives per month for a period of 1 year; full day's commitment for every drive; weekdays only.
  • Required: A roadworthy vehicle, an active email address and a valid driver's license.

Please select a minimum of three days

Referees

Please provide us with names and full postal addresses of two referees who are happy to give you a character reference. e.g. neighbours, previous employers, friends, etc. who are not family members, and who you have known for over 2 years. We will also ask you to submit to a garda reference check and we will provide you with the garda vetting form in due course. Please note your referees will be contacted before you start as a volunteer with us.

How we use your information

The information you have provided will be kept securely and used by the Irish Cancer Society in order to make your volunteer activity possible. Your information will only be shared with selected third party service providers, contracted by the Irish Cancer Society to assist with our services. By signing up to be a Volunteer Driver you will receive an email or phone call from the Patient Travel team and periodic check-ins from veteran volunteer drivers to support you in your volunteer activity. Your information will not be shared with any other organisation, other than with your permission, or where required by law.
