Professor John Fitzpatrick Research Fellowship 2015 [Now closed]

The Irish Cancer Society in partnership with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is seeking applications from talented, young scientists and clinicians for the Professor John Fitzpatrick Research Fellowship 2015.

The programme will provide funding for research fellowship comprising two years at the host institution in Boston and one year at the home institution in Ireland. A maximum of three years funding can be applied for.

Applications are sought from clinicians and/or scientists coming from a field relevant to prostate cancer research and including but not limited to, biological and life sciences research, pathology, medical oncology, urology, radiation oncology, biostatistics, epidemiology or population health.

Each Fellowship Award is up to €90,000 per year for a maximum of 3 years to cover salary, running costs and dissemination.

Application process:

The Research Fellowship will follow a three-stage application and review process as follows:

Stage 1 - Expression of interest (mandatory)

Applicants intending to submit an application to the call must provide an expression of interest in the form of a maximum 5 page CV, abstract (max 250 words) and strong letters of support from both the home and host institutions and from named mentors in each collectively indicating their willingness to host the fellow to research@irishcancer.ie no later than Monday 12th October 2015, 13:00 GMT.

Applicants should consult with the home mentor to identify a suitable host mentor. A template CV can be found in Appendix A. Applicants who have been deemed eligible will be invited to submit a full proposal. The Irish Cancer Society anticipates that invitations to the full proposal stage will be issued in late October 2015.

Stage 2 – Full proposal (by invitation only)

The deadline for submission of full proposal applications is Monday 7th December 2015, 13:00 GMT. Full proposals must follow the structure outlined Appendix B.

Each proposal will be reviewed by a panel of scientific and clinical experts selected by the partner organisations who will evaluate both the scientific merit of the proposal and its potential to deliver significant impact to prostate cancer patients and the public.

Only applicants whose proposal is deemed to be excellent both in terms of science and potential for delivering significant transformative impact to Irish prostate cancer patients will progress (by invitation) to the interview stage.

The Irish Cancer Society anticipates that invitations to interview will be issued in mid-January 2016.

Stage 3 - Interview 

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview with the review panel and representatives from the Boston – Ireland Prostate Cancer Collaboration.
