Funds raised from this year’s event will be used to support children and families affected by childhood cancer. We are encouraging all participants to fundraise on behalf of the Irish Cancer Society in the run up to Colour Dash.

Your help is needed now more than ever. Every year around 200 children up to the age of 16 are diagnosed with cancer. By raising vital funds you will be making every step count and every cent raised will go towards supporting families affected by childhood cancer across Ireland.

Our top fundraising tips:

Fundraise online – set up an online sponsorship page on www.facebook.com or www.justgiving.com. Online fundraising is an easy and hassle free way for your friends, family and colleagues to donate online.

Spread the word – whether you are fundraising online or using sponsorship cards don’t forget to let people know. The more people you ask, the more money you can raise. You can ask in person, through e-mail or over the phone, but please do ask!

Hold an event- get a group of friends together and hold a fundraising event, such as a coffee morning or table quiz. It’s a great way of raising funds, while having a fun time!

Matched giving – find out if your company has a matched giving scheme. They may be able to donate €1 for every €1 you raise – a great way to boost your fundraising total!

Give updates and reminders – send occasional reminders to friends who have said they will donate. Donations do come in after the event is finished. So email everyone and tell them how the event went, thank all those who sponsored you and let them know what remains to reach your target.

Call our Support Line and speak to one of our cancer nurses, or be put in touch with our children’s cancer nurse, for confidential advice, support and information. Our Support Line is open Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm. You can also email us any time on supportline@irishcancer.ie.

In-hospital support

Our children’s cancer nurse is in Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin one day per week to provide free, confidential advice, support and information to anyone affected by a child’s cancer. She will be around the playrooms, wards and clinic areas. See the in-hospital posters for times and days.

Parent peer support

Speak to a parent of a child who has gone through a cancer diagnosis. Our trained volunteers are available to provide emotional and practical support to anyone whose child is going through or finished their treatment. This service is also available to other adult family members, like grandparents, aunts and uncles. This programme is in partnership with Childhood Cancer Ireland and CanTeen Ireland.

Child and adolescent counselling and psychological support services

Across the country, the Irish Cancer Society works with cancer support centres to help provide services and support for children and adolescents with a cancer diagnosis. Many offer counselling services, creative therapies and practical support for those affected and their families. We also offer telephone and video-call counselling. If you or your child is in need of psychological support, we can refer you to an appropriate service. For more information on any of these supports, call our Support Line on Freephone 1800 200 700.

Patient Travel and Financial Grants

We provide Patient Travel and Financial Grants for patients in need who are in cancer treatment.

• We have expanded our Volunteer Driver Service to bring children and young adults (CAYA) travelling from Kildare, Meath, Dublin and Wicklow to CHI at Crumlin for treatment.
• Through our Children’s Fund, a once-off grant payment of up to €3,000 is available to the families of children undergoing cancer treatment nation-wide.
• Through the Travel2Care Fund, patients travelling over 50KM one-way to a designated centre can access the Travel2Care Fund. Travel2Care is made available by the NCCP.
