Vhi Dublin Women's Mini Marathon
The Vhi Women's Mini Marathon is kind of a big deal. And it's got the numbers to prove it. Aside from being the biggest event of its kind anywhere in the world, this annual 10k charity road race around the historic streets of Dublin is a massive fundraiser for Irish charities.
Since the inaugrial event in 1983, when 9,000 women took part, it has exponentially grown in popularity as women have taken more interest in their own health and fitness. In the course of its 35 years more than 1 million women have taken part.
In 2017, an estimated €9.3m was raised on the day for charities, bringing the total raised, since its inception, to more than €210m.
The event not only attracts participants from all 32 counties, but also from countries around the world. And it is equally popular with women of all ages (there were more than 400 participants over 70 years of age at the 2017 event).
