Can I be screened for prostate cancer?

Testing for prostate cancer when you have no symptoms is called screening. At present, there is no screening programme in Ireland for prostate cancer. This may change when more results of two large international research studies on prostate cancer screening become available in the future.

Men, who are over the age of 50 years, have a positive family history of prostate cancer and who are concerned, should visit their GP. You can discuss if you should have a PSA test or not. For more information, call the helpline for a free copy of the booklet Understanding the PSA Test.
