What is the prostate?

The prostate is a gland in males about the size of a walnut. It is found between your bladder and rectum back passage and surrounds your urethra, the tube that carries urine from your bladder.

The prostate is part of the male reproductive system and makes semen. It also makes a protein called PSA prostate specific antigen, which turns the semen liquid. The way the prostate gland works and how the cells grow depends on the male sex hormone, testosterone. This is made in the testicles.
