The Daffodil Centre volunteer works alongside the Cancer Information Service nurse in the centre. You'll welcome visitors to the centre, assess their needs and show them to the correct information. In order to become a Daffodil Centre volunteer, you must pass an interview and 4 full days’ training.
The role of the Daffodil Centre volunteer is integral to the running of the service. Volunteers welcome people to the centre, and talk to them about their needs. If their needs are more complex, you'll refer them to the Cancer Information Service Nurse or arrange a suitable time for them to meet with the nurse.
You'll also answer telephone questions if the Cancer Information Service Nurse is unavailable, directing people to the Cancer Information Service (1800 200 700), and other Irish Cancer Society services.
You'll be involved in the day-to-day running of the Daffodil Centre. This will involve things like cleaning the centre and keeping it well-maintained, promoting the centre by distributing leaflets and posters throughout the hospital. You'll be involved in cancer awareness campaigns and relay cancer prevention messages as outlined by the Society.

The experience of taking clients to and from hospital under the Care to Drive programme has been most rewarding. I've met some very interesting people, who are courteous and appreciative.

I started at the Irish Cancer Society as a volunteer working on some big and exciting campaigns. I was delighted when I was offered a contract role as the Supporter Services Manager. The Society's ethos encourages growth and provides opportunity for advancement. I'm very proud to be a part of the most respected fundraising team in Ireland.
