Join the Daffodil Day Bunch – Do something special this March!

Daffodil Day 2010 is on Friday 26th March.

Daffodil Day is the Irish Cancer Society’s major fundraising day supporting cancer patient care and information services across the country. It’s a day for all of us to come together and pin a daffodil to the nation, giving hope and support to people affected by cancer in Ireland.

Margaret Barry, Daffodil Day Volunteer and friend of the ICS, says:

“I decided to volunteer for Daffodil Day because I wanted to do something positive. Many people in my life have been affected by cancer and it’s such a devastating blow to the person, their family and their friends. The work that the Irish Cancer Society does is so important to them and I was delighted to have the opportunity to help. On the day I had so much fun, people really like to support Daffodil Day – it’s a special event.”

With one in three people in Ireland affected by cancer at some point in their life, there is every chance your life will be touched by cancer. Now is your chance to make a difference, so please be part of something special and join us for Daffodil Day 2010.

Our mission for 2010 is to raise €4 million. We need your support to reach this target, so let’s make the commitment, come together and make this the best year yet!

How you can join our Daffodil Day Bunch now

Can you be part of our Daffodil bunch in your neighbourhood or local town and make Daffodil Day truly bloom this year?

How your support of Daffodil Day makes a difference?

“Night time can often be a very lonely time for families when they are caring for a loved one at home. We are there to make them feel safe, to provide gentle guidance, to offer an ear to listen, a hand to hold, to share a cup of tea or to offer a smile of reassurance at a very difficult time” - Hannah Willis, Irish Cancer Society Nurse

Thanks to funds raised from Daffodil Day, every day all over Ireland our night nurses and specialist cancer nurses are delivering the highest standards of care to patients and their families and support to anyone concerned about cancer, free of charge.

We simply could not do this without you.

Patient care: Over 1,800 families in Ireland will receive free care from a night nurse this year, providing vital support for families who are nursing a seriously ill relative with cancer at home. A diagnosis of cancer has a profound effect on patients and their loved ones. Funds from Daffodil Day support 20 oncology liaison nurses in hospitals around the country, who will be on hand to provide practical and emotional assistance to people with cancer.

Information: We produce some of the latest advice and support on cancer, and free information that can really help someone who's in the dark and feeling frightened. Our Cancer Information Service is available weekdays 9am-7pm (9am-5pm on Friday) on Freefone 1800 200 700, while our email service is helpline@irishcancer.ie.
